Hi there! I’m Ginny Mahar, a Cordon Bleu Chef and Functional Medicine Health Coach, and I’m so glad you’re here. My journey with thyroid health began in 2011 when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and, eventually, Hashimoto’s. I started to wonder, “Does food matter? And if so, what should I eat?” This curiosity sparked a quest to find answers, but instead, I found even more questions about diet, lifestyle, and treatment.

Like many of you, I felt overwhelmed and lost in a sea of conflicting advice. But through trial, error, and determination, I discovered that food and lifestyle changes could transform my health. Within weeks of making simple adjustments, I felt like my old self again—energetic, vibrant, and once again able to pursue my dreams.

I created Hypothyroid Chef to share what I’ve learned and connect with others who are navigating similar challenges. Here, you’ll find thyroid-friendly recipes, lifestyle tips, and a community of "Thyroid Thrivers" who are committed to living well. Whether you’re struggling with fatigue, weight gain, or just feeling stuck, I’m here to help you simplify your approach, nourish your body, and reclaim your health.

 Why I Created Hypothyroid Chef

 

When I first started dealing with hypothyroidism, I realized that while many thyroid health resources existed, there was a lack of real, practical guidance for those of us who want to eat delicious food while managing our condition. With over 20 years of experience as a professional chef, I knew that I could create recipes that are both thyroid-friendly and enjoyable for the whole family. But beyond the recipes, I wanted to provide more—answers to the questions that we all have: How do I manage my symptoms? What changes can I make today to start feeling better? And how can I do this without feeling overwhelmed?

At Hypothyroid Chef, my mission is to empower you with the knowledge and tools to take control of your thyroid health in a way that fits into your life. I believe that with the right support and resources, you can enjoy food, live well, and feel your best every day. Together, we’ll navigate the complexities of thyroid health with simple, practical tools, community support, and plenty of delicious, easy-to-make meals that support your journey.
